A neurodivergent in a neurotypical world
If any of this sounds familiar — you’re in the right place.
You’re in the middle of a conversation with someone who should understand you — but doesn’t.
You’re bouncing a leg, tapping a finger, moving while most everyone else in the room is standing still.
You see something as clear as the nose on your face — someone who isn’t as sincere as everyone else believes — but no one else picks up on it, so you excuse it away as you being silly.
You’re not imagining it.
Who we are
UnMasking Neurons is a social enterprise built on a single conviction: neurodivergent people are not broken. They are simply part of a world designed around the majority — where the experiences of most became the definition of normal, and everyone else got labeled different, difficult, or not worth the effort.
We see you — and we know what it costs to navigate a world that doesn’t. We’re building something different.
Our mission
To change how the world understands neurodivergent people. To raise their voices from unheard to undeniable — and to show the world that their minds are so much more than it has ever given them credit for.
Our vision
A world where neurodivergent people don’t have to fight to be heard. Where what they see isn’t dismissed just because others don’t see it yet. Where stating that your brain works differently isn’t something to be afraid of.
How it started.
As many ND people do on any number of days, I was looking for something to support me in my day to day. This particular day, it was an app to help me manage my day. I kept hitting a wall — every app I found required me to adapt to it rather than giving me the tool I actually needed. So I decided to build it myself.
As I started building, that wall kept nagging at me. Then it landed — quietly, the way the clearest thoughts usually do. If I can build an app, I can make it available to other ND people. A tool for them, by them. If I can do that, why can’t I build a space for them — somewhere they get real support, and somewhere that starts to shift what the world thinks it knows about ND?
UnMasking Neurons is what happens when you stop waiting for someone else to see the problem.
Our wings
UnMasking Neurons operates across five wings — each distinct, all connected by one mission.
Technology — UMNTech Privacy-first software built for neurodivergent people and the families who support them. Starting with UMNRhythm — on-device AI, zero telemetry, zero-knowledge architecture.
Community — UMNTogether A community where neurodivergents connect, share their stories, and find people who get it — without algorithms, without data harvesting, without anyone using their presence for someone else’s benefit.
Science Institute Research built on a different premise: not what is wrong with neurodivergent minds, but what those minds can make happen. Community-consented, privacy-protected, published for everyone.
Consulting & Advisory Most organizations were not built with accessibility in mind — and most do not know where to start. UnMasking Neurons works with organizations to identify and close gaps in how they communicate digitally, so their content, tools, and services work for everyone.
Unmasking Neurons Advocacy Outreach, seminars, and bringing research directly to the people who need it most.
Designed for the way the ND mind works — not retrofitted for it.
Every piece of content on this site is available in two formats — standard and ND-friendly — switchable with one click. Not because it’s a feature — because it’s the standard UMN builds to.
That same standard applies to every product that comes out of UMN. Not just in what it does, but in how it looks, how it communicates, and what it asks of you. The design decision that made the article toggle possible runs through everything we build.
This isn’t accessibility as an afterthought. It’s the starting point.
